Leave your guesses in the comments. I’ll be on and off one device or another this morning and will drop a hint when I can if one is needed.
*
Here’s a hint: Many moviegoers would have first seen him in a refreshment room.
Another hint: Many moviegoers would recognize him as a military policeman fond of pulp fiction.
I’ll give the name at 4:00 Central if no one’s gotten it.

Oh well. The answer’s in the comments. And in the refreshment room, the sugar is in the spoon.

ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I brightened the screenshot a bit. I’m going to add a hint.
ReplyDeleteNo idea. Paul Tripp?
ReplyDeleteWilliam Demarest?
ReplyDeleteNo, and no. I’ll add another clue.
ReplyDeleteThat’s Trevor Howard as.narcotics kingpin Frank McNally in Pickup Alley (dir. John Gilling, 1957). He’s thoroughly convincing as a bad guy. Here’s another look at him in that hat (with Anita Ekberg: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050841/mediaviewer/rm3803395584/?ref_=ttmi_mi_all_3.
ReplyDeleteevery time i looked at this photo i kept seeing a robin williams doppelganger in a way. his face was familiar but couldn't place the name. trevor howard was never a favorite of mine although he was a good actor especially in the third man. maybe we don't have to like the actor as a person!

I thought for sure someone would guess Robin Williams (and think that I had sneakily turned a color image into black and white). It’s fun to see him here as a sadistic villain — playing against type.
