Mystery actor

Leave a guess — or something more certain — in the comments. I’ll drop a hint if one seems to be needed.

Here’s a hint before I head out on a walk: this actor is known for playing a character for whom the bell tolled. Ding. Ding. Ding.

Giancarlo Esposito, instantly recognisable at any age.

That’s him, as Elisha in Go Tell It on the Mountain (dir. Stan Latham, 1985). I’d never seen him so young. With their backs to the camera, Rose Weaver as Mother Washington and Desiree Coleman as Ella Mae.

This was the easiest one ever! He barely looks any different. Or maybe I've just been seeing him in things through most of his career. (Since Homicide, anyways.)

Well, it looks as though I would have seen him in multiple movies in the mid-1980s, particularly Do the Right Thing. Though I first remember being aware of knowing his name because of Homicide, which is from the late 1990s. But maybe that was a refreshing of awareness. Could be.

I can count Do the Right Thing, Night on Earth, and Malcolm X, but I first became aware of him by name in Smoke (though he has a very small part).

Too bad no one needed the clue, which I thought was pretty good (the death scene in Breaking Bad).
