Mystery actor

[Click for a larger view.]

Do you recognize him? Leave your answer in the comments. I’ll add a hint if needed.

Here’s a hint: he’s best known as a summer visitor.

One more: he's best known as a summer visitor spending two weeks next door with his aunt.

Oh well. I’ve added the answer in the comments.

My “say the first thing that comes to mind” answer is: Gary Busey

This guy has the Gary as Buddy Holly hair-cut.

Not Gary Busey.

That’s John Megna, best known as Dill Harris in To Kill a Mockingbird. This screenshot is from the Naked City episode “A Horse Has a Big Head — Let Him Worry!” It aired on November 21, 1962, just a few months before the movie release.

That's sneaky. Using a photo of an actor where they look older than the role they're known for.

Yes, he does look older. But it’s the Naked City people who were being sneaky, not I. :)

The episode he’s in (via the link) is incredibly good — he plays a visually impaired boy who walks away from a group on a school outing. Diahann Carroll is his teacher. Worth watching.

Confusion: let’s say the episode aired shortly before the release of To Kill a Mockingbird. The IMDb gives three American release dates: December 25, 1962 (Los Angeles), February 14, 1963 (New York City), and March 16, 1963 (the whole country).

Yea, but post on TKAM was undoubtedly much longer. He might have filmed those scenes nine months to a year before the movie was released, while the Naked episode could have been shot a month or less before it aired.

I'm sure TKAM was released in Dec in LA to qualify it for the Oscars, then released to the whole country once it got it's nominations. The Awards that year were in April.

Yes, it’s likely that TKAM was done first. And yes, the December release would have been to get the movie into consideration.

Marion Dougherty was the long-time casting director for Naked City, and as episode after episode of the series shows, she had a great eye for young talented actors.

Do watch the episode if you have a chance. It’s pretty impressive television.
