The guy on the phone: recognize him? I didn’t. Leave your best guess in a comment. I’ll drop a hint if needed.

That didn’t take long. This actor’s name is now in the comments.

The guy who playd Mannix? I’ve never known his name (the show was on when I was a child). A search shows: Mike Connors.

Yes, that’s Mike Connors, making his screen debut in Sudden Fear (dir. David Miller, 1952). He’s billed as Touch Conners. Also in this scene, Bruce Bennett and Jack Palance. The picture on the desk: Joan Crawford, who stars. It’s a terrific movie, available from the Criterion Channel, YouTube, and, no doubt, other sources.

I couldn't come up with his name, but I too was pretty sure it was the guy from Mannix.

Has anyone ever watched an episode of Mannix? Me, never, but Mike Connors seems to have been ubiquitous on TV.

Wasn’t Mannix one of those shows that CBS ran in rotation on Sunday nights in the early 1970s? I think the other shows were Columbo, McCloud and McMillan & Wife. Each show had one episode broadcasted every four weeks. Unusual arrangement.

Michael Leddy said...

I remember Colombo In that way. Maybe on NBC? I’m going to leave it a mystery, no pun intended.

I looked it up. I was right about Mannix being on CBS, but off on the rest of it. The other three shows were on The NBC Sunday Night Mystery, along with Hec Ramsey, which I don’t remember at all. The format was known as a “wheel series.”

Michael Leddy said...

Hec Ramsey?! His name rings no bell. And I had no idea they were all called a “wheel series.” But I remember the idea of rotating shows.

I didn’t realize I was misspelling Columbo’s name as the old yogurt.

"Touch Conners"? WHat a great made-up name.
Like William Shatner's character in Kingdom of the Spiders, "Rack Hanson". LOL

Frex = Fresca

Michael Leddy said...

I wonder if Rack knew Hec.

Wikipedia says that “Touch” was a high-school basketball nickname. His given name: Krekor Ohanian.
