A Grape-Nuts shortage

I somehow missed it. From The New York Times:

After a monthslong, nationwide shortage of its polarizing cereal, the maker of Grape-Nuts is trying to reassure customers that the familiar wheat-and-barley breakfast will soon be back, still with no grapes or nuts.

The cereal’s manufacturer, Post Consumer Brands, announced on Thursday that it would be shipping the cereal at full capacity by mid-March, after supply-chain constraints and higher demand during the pandemic caused a shortage in late 2020.

“We recognize that the temporary Grape-Nuts shortage has been frustrating to fans given that Grape-Nuts is a one-of-a-kind cereal and there is no other cereal like it on the market,” Kristin DeRock, the cereal’s brand manager, said in a statement.

Well, there are cereals like it: Nutty Nuggets, Rocky Pellets, Stony Orbs, and other store brands. But our stash of “the familiar wheat-and-barley breakfast” should last through mid-March.

[Monthslong? Yes, it’s a word. Only Nutty Nuggets are real.]

I did not see this, but I have been suffering under a shortage of Grape-Nuts. I worried it suggested dire-er times, but I have found it again. It's hard finding substitutes without sugar added.

Kroger Nutty Nuggets are very close in flavor and texture, with no added sugar. But Grape-Nuts are the real thing.

Grape-Nuts brand manager is named DeRock? And there is a marketing professional name Heyman?
To quote Fats Waller, "One never knows now does one?"

I ashamed to say that I read right past Ms. DeRock’s name. Maybe it influenced my choice of Rocky Pellets.

I was at the local Walmart today and remembering this post, I decided to see if we were experiencing the shortage. I am happy to report there were many of the large boxes on the shelf.

And yes, I like it because of no sugar!

My dad used to make sure he rationed it among us kids as it was quite expensive. I swear he would measure the amount out that we could have!

ps I bought a box!

I’m curious what I’ll find on the next shopping trip — not for another two weeks.
