ReplyDeleteIt occurred to me after the fact that the speaker probably never watched Our Gang shorts (Matthew Beard played Stymie).
ReplyDeleteI heard her say "stimmied" and it made me look up the pronunciation to make sure I haven't been wrong all these years. I was pretty sure I had been correct, but I'm open to being wrong!
ReplyDeleteBut given there's a typeface called Stymie and I know how that is pronounced... I was pretty sure.
I saw that someone mentioned it on Twitter too. I’m not outraged — anyone can make a mistake, and you’re looking at someone who for the longest time thought that Goethe was pronounced “goath.” But it did surprise me.
