Google has created eight new top-level domains, including .mov and .zip. Imagine the hilarity when someone clicks to open what appears to be a .mov or .zip file and gets taken to a sketchy website. Taken, indeed.
Here’s a harmless example: financialstatement.zip. As Stephen Hackett says, “Google has brought something terrible into the world.”

We used to have an area called “Programming and Material Practices” abbreviated to PMP. Had they asked me about the naming, I’d have pointed out that in order to pronounce PMP people would likely insert a short “i” vowel...
An ill-chosen combination, for sure. We had one in the university system: PQP I think the letters stood for productivity, quality, and who knows what.
And as you might guess, PQP stood for “downsizing.”
