Masking, still masking

An item of interest:

As Boing Boing reports, this tweet resonated with many readers. (Look at the numbers.) With me too, but I’m not worried about feeling like “a fucking alien freak.” I don’t care what anyone thinks. I give no fucks. Or rather, I do give a fuck — about not getting COVID-19 or giving it to someone else.

When Elaine and I went shopping today, we saw, for the first time, no one else wearing a mask. And we live in a county in which only 45.2% of the population is vaxxed. And only half of those people are boosted. And I should care that someone thinks it’s strange to be wearing a mask?

We still double-mask when we go into stores or the library. (We also wear gloves.) At this point 90% of the people we see indoors are unmasked. No one has made any negative comments directed towards us so far.

I should’ve made it clear that I haven’t heard any negative comments — just a few dirty looks or refusals to look my way.

I'm still masking and especially as the state health department is reporting an increase in cases as well as deaths. My county moved from Moderate level of cases (50 and below) to Substantial (50-99 per 100,000 peopel). As we only have 75,000 in the county.....

I have have a few people give me looks but no comments.

I read of someone in Omaho who double masks due to health issues and had an 80 year old man without a mask spit on her and started laughing and when she reacted called her crazy. Other people in the line were supporting her.

My neighbor across the street who had it in November 2020 still masks and continues to deal with issues of taste and smell.

I've ordered my free tests and worry what the fall will bring.........

I think a combination of “downstate-Illinois nice” and libertarian you-do-you mindsets has kept the lid on things here. I hope that here too people would stand with the person being abused for masking.

That's not abuse. That's assault, with or without pandemic.

I haven't noticed any dirty looks. Surprisingly in the absence of a requirement, most people on my CTA bus are masked, some double.
