A couple of minutes ago: “The rails are starting to come off.”
Strange days might require that ordinary idioms go out the window, so to speak. But I think it’s more reasonable (though not safer) to say that the wheels are starting to come off.

No, see, it's actually a detailed, jargon-ridden discussion of strange the simultaneous implosion/explosion that is NJ Transit Trains/Amtrak/Lightrail/NJPATH—now expanded from its famous one-flake-of-snow "Winter Glass-Jaw" to whaf may prove to be a full-on Four-Season Conflagration with our new woes this Summer which have had weak attempts at explanation at best—vague employee-blaming references to staffing shortages, broad assertions that no refunding or other monetary rebate or benefit will be made to stranded and hellishly late riders. . 😭😂😂😂
Yeah, I’ve been reading about NJ Transit. I’m glad I do the bus when I go into the city from NJ.
