[It’s 10°F and feels like 9°. I’m just trying to entertain myself. This brief narrative has two inspirations. One: a friend who’s been reading Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. The other: crosswordese.]

“Who are we as a country?”

Well, you have stumped me, Michael. There seems to be some constraint, perhaps having to do with the vowels, but I can't figure it out.
It’s made with words and names that come up in crosswords, again and again: ERLE (as in Stanley Gardner), DRE (as in Dr.), and so on. All the conspicuous three- and four-letter words are from that pool, even NEHI.
Clever. I should have picked that up on my old friends ALOE and ACAI.
I just changed the post to make things less opaque.
