I GOT IT!
The Saturday Stumper doesn’t add the question mark that crossword-makers sometimes add to a clue to signal trickery. I am realizing that what I need to do is to imagine every baffling Saturday Stumper clue as ending in a question mark or appearing in a blog post. :)
