Fifteen stripes, at least sixty-one stars: it’s AI slop. Or as my son said, it’s USAI. And the prose is sloppy too: “issued a called on.” I’d expect better from a department of education led by a former professional-wrestling executive. Note the hyphen.
And yes, it’s a real post.
Thanks, kiddos.

I missed the most glaring problem with the picture, but a reader caught it: the students aren’t facing the flag. Thanks, Kevin.
[In most United States schools, the Pledge of Allegiance is already recited every day, though a student’s participation cannot be required.]

It's been a long time, but shouldn't the students be facing the flag?
ReplyDeleteOh Lordy. That didn’t even occur to me.
ReplyDeleteI love the 1960's picture from back when every "white" had straight hair, and boys all had shirts with collars and looked like they could read well at church. Not sure, though, about the Black kids being off to the side.
ReplyDeleteAnd the white girls look disturbingly alike, as do the white boys. And the one Black girl is in the back of the room. Hmm. Pretty clear that they didn’t expect anyone to think about this picture. Nor do they appear to have done much thinking when they had AI generate it.
ReplyDeleteWith their backs to the flag, exactly who or what are they pledging alligence to?
ReplyDeleteAllegiance. Apologies.
ReplyDeleteIt can’t be to the current occupant — the person standing in front of them isn’t wearing a blue suit.
ReplyDeleteI hesitated when typing allegiance in this post. But I had a tab open about the Pledge of Allegiance in schools and seeing the word there got me off the hook.
Rather than the pledge, it seems like the words of "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" would be coming out of their little AI mouths.
ReplyDeleteYou know, one of my (until now unspoken) fears is that the current occupant will encourage his followers to say hello to neighbors with “Make America Great Again” — a “Heil Hitler” for our time.
