Hello, com.apple.mediaanalysisd

I found my MacBook Air strangely warm this morning. It had been sitting closed all night. What gives?

I looked at the Activity Monitor and found the culprit: a process called com.apple.mediaanalysisd, which was using 1.5GB+ on memory. What gives?

It turns out that there’s much online discussion of this process. I’ll share just one page that I found helpful, from MacRumors.

A solution that appears to work, at least for now: I downloaded the app App Tamer and set it to turn off the process. And I changed this folder — ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mediaanalysisd — to Read-only status so that nothing new can be added.

If you have a Mac that suddenly seems warm to the touch, com.apple.mediaanalysisd might be the culprit. If you don’t have a Mac, look for other problems to solve.
