Bill Atkinson (1951–2025)

The New York Times has a lengthy obituary.

But talk about understatement: the headline reads “Bill Atkinson, Who Made Computers Easier to Use, Is Dead at 74.” Atkinson invented the pull-down menu, the selection lasso, and the double-click. Anyone who uses what used to be called a personal computer is in his debt.
