Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, this morning:
“May almighty God continue to bless our troops in this fight. And to the American people, please pray for them, every day, on bended knee with your family, in your schools, in your churches, in the name of Jesus Christ.”Not everyone prays. Not everyone kneels to pray. Not everyone prays in the name of Jesus. It’s one thing for a public official to ask that a supreme bless a country or a military force. It’s another to speak exclusively of a particular religious tradition.

My friend Stefan passed on a gift link to a New York Times editorial: “Trump’s Hypocrisy on Religious Freedom.”
Thanks, Stefan.

They are relentless and relentlessly offensive. On a related note:

Thanks, Stefan — I probably would have missed that. It reminded me that our representative in Congress, Mary Miller, found it “deeply troubling” that a Muslim was leading a prayer in the House. When she found out that the man was a Sikh, she was “deeply troubled” about that.
