One more commentary on the election

It’s by Rebecca Solnit: “Our mistake was to think we lived in a better country than we do” (The Guardian ).

I think that hits the nail on the head. And personally, that I "live" in this country is exact; I no longer feel that I belong to it, or in it. I'm a New Englander now.

I’m a stranger here myself. :)

Solnit mentions media. I think the ones who distrust conventional media are the same ones who cannot critically explain journalism ethics. I think it is high time that students were assigned to write essays on the topic of common sense J ethics—without using AI.

But people distrust (so-called) mainstream media from a variety of perspectives. I think a mistrust of mainstream (so-called) media and a belief in ethical journalism can go together well — Margaret Sullivan, for instance, the one-time public editor of The New York Times, points again and again to her former employer’s sanewashing of Donald Trump’s rhetoric. Sullivan is the Executive Director for the Craig Newmark Center for Journalism Ethics and Security at the Columbia Journalism School.
