The Guardian has an obituary. Nothing in The New York Times yet.
Jimmy Carter was the first presidential candidate I ever voted for (and the second). He lived a good life, a life of uncommon decency, and there’s probably some grace in its ending before our next national nightmare officially begins.

Just a great human being. He never got the national recognition that he deserved.
Sympathy for all the people mourning Jimmy Carter.
My first and second Presidential vote also.
He partly took the blame for failed hostage rescue.
What people didn't know back then, nor did an Atlantic Magazine cover story some years ago, was that by WWII standards the rescue was grossly incompetent.
For example, involving, for political reasons, too many hastily trained branches of the forces, (rather than "keeping it simple" using servicemen already trained) and the mission leader not being involved in the planning.
I'm annoyed that Carter took the fall for that.
One couldn't imagine a bigger contrast with what is expected. I hope 2025 is not as dire as speculation predicts. Best wishes to you from the UK where we are also faced with potential political turmoil.
By the way, I am not part of the aristocracy, there is an explanation for my blogonym on my blog.
Thanks for the good wishes. Let’s all work to make the best 2025 we can.
Just one of many differences from the incoming, who always places blame elsewhere.
