An indefatigable reader tracked down the pharmacist whose pharmacy was destroyed to make way for the Gowanus Parkway: Dr. Max Korowitz, who bought the pharmacy at 4523 3rd Avenue in 1916.

ReplyDeleteI teared up watching a Ken Burns clip about the Cross Bronx Expressway. I drove it for years, commuting to college with no idea of what it did to the borough’s neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteI read the One Mile chapter about the Cross Bronx devastation when I was 18 years old... had a bit affect on my entire life.
ReplyDeleteI finished that chapter this morning, and I don't think I've ever been angrier when reading a book. I wonder if anyone has tried to make a case for reparations to the descendants of those displaced tenants.
