I am pleased to see that in The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York (1974), Robert Caro refers, at least twice, to sliding ponds. A New-York-City-ism. But he also refers to jungle gyms, not monkey bars.

i've finally started the book and this time around it seems a lot more interesting. i still don't like his character -- perhaps too many people today remind me of him. still around page 12 and the description of all the stuff he did was overshadowed by the thought of the eviction of all the people not only in nyc but other places.

Keep going — Caro knows better than anyone what was despicable in Moses. (A lot.) He presents a pretty damning portrait.
