Elaine says that these madeleines bring back memories of Wal-Mart.

The expiration date was in fact the first thing I noticed! I mean after I noticed that they were madeleines. That’s like the expired bakery at the thrift store where I worked – – even though it was expired you could probably eat it for another year or so before it turned into a rock
The store is being redone, so these might have been left out at full price through carelessness. They do have a big display of baked stuff at half price. I'm surprised to see these at Wal-Mart at any price – maybe it's the Starbucks influence.
oh! i will need to see if my walmart carries these. our local walmart was redone during the last year and it turned out quite nice. they actually ended up relocating some of the departments which turned out to be a good idea.
at some point i will go back and re-read monsieur proust.

They looked good, which makes me think the baking is outsourced. Maybe they're the same stuff sold at Starbucks (?).
When soaked in tea, even the most expired madeleines again exhale their fragrance from the past.
Very nice. : )
