Double as in Double Indemnity (1944), with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. Today’s Zippy is all noir. A strip search for noir at the Zippy website will reveal many more noirish strips.
Merriam-Webster gives film noirs as the preferred plural, with films noir and films noirs as alternatives. To my surprise, the Google Ngram Viewer shows shows films noirs on a rapid rise since 1987.

Replace Barbara Billingsley with Barbara Stanwick in Leave it to Beaver? LOL. Golly, imagine a film noir version of that old show. Wikipedia tells me Hugh Beaumont had some experience playing detectives, so we’re off to a good start.
If Stanwyck were June Cleaver, I’d always wonder if she killed Ward’s first wife.
Hugh Beaumont is pretty decent in his movie appearances. I never realized when younger how many early TV people had had at least minor success in the movies.
