Zingerman’s Portuguese sardines are available in the 2015 and 2016 vintages. The small oily fish are meaty and delicious.
Thank you, Kevin!
[Since 2017, “small oily fish” has been my deliberately dumb inelegant variation on “sardine” — like “slender yellow fruit” for “banana.”]

I had no idea, but it makes sense, even if a little bizarrely worded here, that...
"There’s a particularly delicious brand of magic that infuses this oily, rich, bony, saline fish when it hibernates for years in a wallet-sized metal cocoon."
They do seem to mellow with time. But I imagine an angry sardine: “Who’re you callin’ bony?”
