Our trash service of many years sold out to another company. Trash day has always been Monday, with recycling every other Wednesday. We had a mailing from the new owner last week, telling us that as of November 3, our trash day was moving to Friday. Okay.
Yesterday morning I saw that our four closest neighbors had their trash cans out. They all have the same service we have. I wondered if I should put our can out. Maybe they knew something we didn’t.
I put the can out. At three in the afternoon, all cans were still out, full of trash.
I’m reminded of the Asch conformity experiments. And I’m not happy about that.

The 1976 satire epic "Kinflicks" has a hilarious scene where the heroine is frantically doubting herself as others are seeing the lines differently. She conforms.... That's the one scene I remember well, (I haven't read it since publication) but I see from the reviews that she conforms to her varied boyfriends, so maybe this college scene was a set up for that behaviour.
Don't be so hard on yourself. I'd call it "covering all bases".
Sean, I’d like to find that scene. Jackie, thank you for your support. :)
Akin to “covering all bases” let’s just call upon Pascal’s Wager.
Yes, that works. :)
