Garner’s Modern English Usage notes that it’s often advisable to distinguish between can and may, but that

only an insufferable precisian would insist on observing the distinction in informal speech or writing (especially in questions such as “Can I wait until August?”).

Or in questions such as “Can I get some help finding a book?”
