Owen Burke likes sardines:
So long as I have a roof over my head and a kitchen cabinet, I will forever have a case of sardines in there through my very dying breath. He makes the case for a case of Wild Planet sardines, $27 for twelve cans.

I might very well become the same way, but with pickled herring, or as my Swedish brethren call it, sill.
I should probably try that. The line between sardines and herring is pretty thin.
At this very moment, I am down to three cans of sardines in the cupboard. Time to hit the grocery stores to restock! (Each one offers, in addition to two or three of the same, a few unique brands and flavors.)
I have an assortment of twenty-one cans. I better eat one for lunch.
I’ve found jars of sill at both Jewel and While Foods, without trying very hard, so it should be readily available. And if you’re lucky enough to find a Swedish deli (they do exist), you can get it fresh, in a quart container.
I’ll try our international-foods store the next time we’re in Urbana.
Nope, nothing there.
