I had a conversation with my dad in a dream a couple of weeks ago. He wanted me to order something for him from Amazon — no doubt a CD. But what? Maybe he’ll call back.
Happy Father’s Day to all.

Father’s Day

My dad was alive for maybe the first ten years of Amazon’s existence, but I doubt that he had any idea what it was. His only foray into e-commerce was an ill-fated purchase on eBay - he thought he was buying a pewter platter (he was a pewter collector) that turned out to be cheap silverplate. He complained afterward that he had been scammed, but when I checked eBay later, the listing clearly said it was silverplate. Caveat emptor. Or emptor, read what the seller is telling you!
My dad was devoted to LPs when younger and became entirely devoted to CDs when they came on the scene. He would read reviews and choose very carefully. I think the only time an Amazon purchase ever disappointed him was when I ordered something for him that was out of print, a CD that was supposed to be “like new.” And the CD was scratched and the case was cracked. No good — even if the CD was playable. He was a perfectionist in taking care of his music.
And happy father's day to you, Michael, father and grand–!
