I can almost imagine Donald Trump*, several months from now:
“And we must never forget our great warrior seniors — and that’s what they are, you know that. They are warriors, giving their lives in the fight to save our way of life from the terrible plague. We love you. We will never forget you. We will always treasure the memory of your great sacrifice, so very great. And we must never forget our great young people,” &c.The Trump* cult — No mask? No test? No problem! — really is a death cult.

Dark thought, yes; but one I've had since first following the statistics.
That little conspiracy elf that lives in an equally dark place in my brain has long whispered that this virus was designed to attack the most vulnerable among us, because those of us over 60 are living longer and will require more medical and social services as a result. In addition, we will continue to receive social security and medicare benefits for longer periods.
Ours is not the only country that resents the drain on their economies in support of their elderly, non-contributing citizens.
Maybe the virus should be renamed Covid-19 Elder Death Lottery.
(Maybe I need a cup of coffee to set my thinking straight.)
It’s hard to decide if Trump* is executing (no pun intended) a crafty plan or merely engaging in magical thinking because he’s incapable of acknowledging and addressing the problem. I’ve wondered if a executive response that lets the virus run rampant might be a means to the suspension of the November election.
I just read a quote on Twitter from Lyz Lenz, who writes for the Cedar Rapids Gazette. "Die for your job, is the message from the University of Iowa to instructors." It's where we are.
Thanks, Pat. I’ll have to look that up. An in-person fall semester is going to endanger students too, of course. I can’t imagine most families feeling confident about sending a child off to a campus this fall.
@me: It’s an executive.
