Orange light art

[“As seen in east-central Illinois.” Photograph by Michael Leddy.]

It’s no camera trick: that one light really is different from all the others. Can you guess why the store would have that one bulb be different?

Color is warmer than the others. Is it an incandescent bulb?

I’m not that tall. I need to ask a better question: why would they have one bulb be different?

To make the produce look better?

Michael Leddy said...

Yes. Specifically, the pumpkins and squash. They have their very own spotlight.

The funny thing: the effect is utterly unnatural. That’s why I looked up.

No, your question was clear upon a second, more careful reading.

First, I'm bemused by your question. Not because you noticed the difference, which probably 80% of visitors would not have noticed, but because you were curious enough about the irregularity to photograph it, then ask your readers for possible solutions to the puzzle.

Okay, if all the lamps are the same size and design, and this one would have accommodated the same kind of bulb, that suggests the orange one was either a mistake, or it serves some purpose other than mere illumination of the surrounding space. A security light, perhaps? Left on around the clock, or someone forgot to turn it off when they arrived to work?

You ask the most interesting questions, Michael. Now, I have one for you: Do you know why that light is a different color?

Oh, shoot...didn't think about that! I reached for a pint of blueberries this summer and noticed my hand had a bluish cast. Looked up and saw the light was blue.

LOL. I will have to look for blue. “Blue Light” is also an Ellington tune.
