Nancy TV

[Nancy , September 5, 1949.]

A television in 1949: Fritzi Ritz was a relatively early adopter.

See also Henry and Peanuts for unsupervised children sitting too close to the television. They’ll ruin their eyes!

Given the 1949 date of publication one has to wonder if this is the earliest mention, or perhaps the genesis, of the parental admonition of sitting too close to a television?

I wondered. I suspect that this kind of warning was already in the air. It seems to me one more example of the caution with which people who had come through the Depression watched over their kids. I remember (1960s) a caution against drinking milk straight from the refrigerator — you had to let it warm up a little first.
