Today’s Saturday Stumper

Today’s Newsday  Saturday Stumper, by David P. Williams, is just right. But I have no time to write it up this morning. (Too much fun.)

One of many clue-and-answer pairs I admired: 33-D, eight letters, “Stall of a sort.” No spoiler here; the answer is in the comments.

Easiest one we've had in a while with some great entries:

"What's past prologue," "Raised figure," "Present-day mover," "Counter top"

ACTI, CAIN (ha!), SLEIGH, ANTI

ACTI was one of my favorites too. I didn’t catch CAIN, but I’m avoiding puns about not being able.
