A short film from The New York Times about American attitudes toward vaccination for COVID-19. It’s strong stuff. Proceed with caution.
[Dying in the Name of Freedom. August 2021.]
The vaccination rate in Baxter County, Arkansas, when this film was made: 36%. It’s now 38%.
The vaccination rate in my Illinois county: 35%. The attitudes present in this film are the attitudes present here.

I was able to watch about half of it. Truly a sad state of affairs. They all say it's a personal freedom choice but just once, I wish someone would ask them about personal freedom and driver licenses, paying taxes, receiving social security.
Delta Airlines announced today that unvaccinated employees will pay an additional $200 premium per month for insurance, get tested weekly, and have to wear a mask in all indoor Delta settings. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/25/business/delta-unvaccinated-insurance-cost-increase/index.html
My county is at epidemic level! And people wonder why I still wear a mask.

Same. To wear a mask here is to be an outlier.
We are watching a mass delusion as potent as the virus. The same sort of reactions appeared during the 1918 pandemic. And during the Black Death. Fundamentalism, hedonism, self destruction, scapegoating as a way to defy what they refuse to understand, or are unable to face. Some broken code in our personal or societal code. Maybe it once had an evolutionary advantage. Now, it's utter madness, gibberish.
I made the mistake of looking at the comments on the local paper’s Facebook posts. Yeesh: vaccinated people are sheep, variants are spread by vaccines, the booster shot is needed to reverse the damage done by the original vaccines, most people hospitalized are vaccinated. Talk about delusions. And it all continues to spread.
