I just heard him on the radio Saturday. The disc jockey made a point that it was w/o Astrud Gilberto.
Yes, the famous recording was apparently an impromptu thing in the studio. I was listening to the Getz/Gilberto album today. And a true fact: I used to mesmerize my classes by playing “The Girl from Ipanema” (the full-length version, with both João and Astrud singing) to accompany Odyssey 5, when Odysseus meets Nausicaa on the beach.
