I want to say Happy Mother’s Day, but I also want to think about what mothers endure, with and without their children. This photograph is not “the past.”

The Wikipedia entry is interesting because it sounds like her seven children weren't without food and that due to circumstances the story behind the photograph isn't quite what we imagine.
