Kavanaugh loses the Jesuits

“For the good of the country and the future credibility of the Supreme Court in a world that is finally learning to take reports of harassment, assault and abuse seriously, it is time to find a nominee whose confirmation will not repudiate that lesson”: the Jesuit magazine America has rescinded its endorsement of Brett Kavanaugh.

That must have been a very tough decision for them to make and publicly announce. The American Bar Association is now calling for an investigation despite having given him the "gold standard" before.

I think a truly thoughtful person would welcome an investigation despite fearing what could come out during it.

Given what is already out in public from K’s college and high-school days, I think an investigation will make things worse for him. And it may even lead to criminal charges.

This afternoon I began to suspect that he might withdraw. I think again of my plagiarizing student, vigorously denying plagiarism and then claiming to be without the energy to fight “these baseless accusations.” Saving face with a touch of martyrdom.
