Italics and capitals

Henry James, “The Figure in the Carpet” (1896).

For the length of a sentence, James’s narrator sounds like a character in a Salinger story.

The Figure in the Carpet is no. 49 in the Penguin Little Black Classics series (2015). I wish I could have taught this story: it offers a great occasion for a reader to think about interpretive authority.
