Pre-Code reading

As in wrote in my handful of sentences about this movie, there are several moments that would never have made it past the censors in the post-Code world.

Well, the extended glimpse of that guy reading The Well of Loneliness, for one. And many bits of suggestive dialogue and suggestive situations.

I’m reading this on the city bus, and I literally laughed out loud at the expression on the guy’s face.

I can identify. It’s one of the more startling pre-Code moments I’ve seen.
