Today’s Hi and Lois : wow. The expressions on the three older faces say it all.

July 5: After looking at the artist’s Instagram, which includes a watercolor portrait of the word elegance (i.e., the occupant’s current wife in her Hamburglar/Zorro hat), I must admit that I don’t know what his intention was with this strip. But I know that people of various political persuasions have read it as I raed it.

Wow! I don’t remember Hi & Lois ever having the slightest reference to politics or contemporary goings on.
That’s scary.
PS. As always, Michael, I really appreciate you rounding up quotes and such like. Especially now, I am almost too frightened to look at the news – – I get a lot from you and a couple other friends who temper it for me.

The only political commentary I’ve seen from H and L is the usual “Politicians, feh,” sort of thing. Nothing like this.
I never know how to manage looking at the larger shape of things now while also writing about things I’d rather write about. I think this is a dilemma for anyone who writes online daily with a single announced focus. I could post about the horror, the horror and nothing but. But I can’t do that. But I have to do something.
