A few years ago we needed to replace the dilapidated public library where I live, and a vocal minority thought the whole idea was a waste of money, since the traditional book was supposedly obsolete. I'm happy to say they lost.
Not long ago, the director of an Illinois library attempted a purge of all books more than x years old. When word got out, the books came back and she was purged instead.
