David Foster Wallace, nonplussed My friend Sara McWhorter found nonplussed, correctly used, in Infinite Jest. Thanks, Sara.

  1. I think the most epic use of the term nonplussed was when novelist Michael Peterson used it to describe his opinion of his being found guilty of homicide.

I saw it on the late, great "City Confidential," and almost spat out my Cheerios at the chutzpah.... Wish I could find a video link.

  2. Was he using it correctly? From the context, I can’t tell.

If you’re interested in this case, I can recommend the documentary series The Staircase, all six hours of it.
