Where is Penelope weaving?

David Markson, from Wittgenstein’s Mistress (1988).

Here’s Pintoricchio’s painting.

Also from this novel
Pascal and Nietzsche : “Poor practically the whole world”

as a weaver that painting is a little off as the persons are walking into the room and right into the back of the loom which appears to have no back beam which is needed along with the warp beam at the back of the loom that has the warp wound on it. And the side bars appear to be on a slant which is awkward and not attached to anything!

No wonder she never got Laertes's shroud finished. :) My knowledge of weaving is non-existent, so thank you.

When I most noticed in this painting is the foppishness , or what I think is the foppishness, of the suitors. The fellow in the back, who may be Odysseus, looks markedly different with his full beard.

My town has had, since 1978, the Calgary Weavers and Spinners Guild. What I find especially delightful is their chessboard-sized human-powered wooden looms. Sizes vary; there are smaller and larger..
