Shadows under the El

[211 Pearl Street, Manhattan, c. 1939–1941. From the NYC Municipal Archives Collections. Click for a much larger view.]

Still in Manhattan, still on Pearl Street. After dining at Nick’s Kozy Korner Spaghetti House, you might want to cross the street and enjoy the shadows under the El.

But wait: is that a person in the doorway?

I see “Spaghetti House” in the distance, but I’m missing these. Can you say where?

"Ludens" looks like its below the first "to let" sign, torn handbill. Upper right panel to left of "Ludens" has a chalk drawn game

That’s great! I saw the Limehouse sign in another tax photo, but it just wasn’t legible enough there. Thanks!

Nice find. That site is scarily obsessive. I saw the move in a New York Times article, 1945.
