Margaret Sullivan on protest coverage

Margaret Sullivan, former Washington Post media columnist, former New York Times public editor, covers the coverage: “Big protests — but not big news”:

For weeks and months, I’ve been reading stories and analyses in major news organizations about how the public resistance to Trump is so much quieter now than in 2017.

But when the protests did happen, much of the media reaction was something between a yawn and a shrug. Or, in some outlets, a sneer.

I know MSNBC is making a big deal about it. One caster who said it was a stretch to put 6 feeds on the screen at once put up 20 rallies around the country. I'm just disgusted that the orange guy at the top seems unfazed. I'm just disgusted that the rich guys at the top, who are little dependent on public help, care not at all about those whose lives depend on the safety net, and what they've worked for.

They don’t care. They have never cared. I’m wondering how many of the faithful will begin to figure it out.
