“Delicious Chewing Gum”

[National 4-H Club News, April 1941. Click for a larger, stickier view.]

To every thing there is a reason, not to mention a time and a place. I was looking for an advertisement that touted gum as an aid to concentration. I found this one.

“Try it yourself around the house, when reading, studying, driving or doing any number of other things”: what a pleasantly lackluster pitch.

driving around the house?

What a funny ad---so pseudo scientific.

I think the cow in the background is some kind of subliminal message.

@Fresca: I wondered about that.

@Chris: no wonder I’m chewing gum.

I have never seen an ad touting the benefits of gum so this was interesting to see.

The ad reminds me of the old smoking ads where cigarettes were touted as a way to reduce stress. Some ads even had doctors recommending specific brands!

Yep. Camels gave you “steady nerves.” And they were kind to your “T-zone.”
