Roger Angell’s essay “This Old Man” has won a National Magazine Award for The New Yorker in the category of Essays and Criticism.
I read much of “This Old Man” again last night. It’s a great essay.

Angell's is quite a navel at which to gaze. I came away thinking this was an author to avoid next time. All comes down to a matter of taste, and no matter the quality of the writing, it is rather like a Mapplethorpe photograph. Some I'd view and even have in my home, while others I prefer never again to see nor have around.
