Thank you for this, Michael. The veil has been lifted from my eyes...seriously! I've added his site to my blog list.

The “+ 1” puts things into focus, doesn’t it?

Yes, it does. Today started off with realizing that waking this morning meant that the formula for that event is X-1, but I'm okay with that.

I don't know that I will become a Stoic from this exposure to Irvine's thoughts, but I did recognize that I am leaning that way more and more of late. Not posting to my blog has allowed me to contemplate, stoically it turns out, the inevitable reality and what I want to accomplish in the finite time I have left. Just don't want to spend too much of that time in contemplation, or nothing much will happen. It's too easy for me to get lost in thinking about all the possibilities instead of trying to make some of them come about.

Anyway, I'm revisiting his blog to read other posts to see if Stoicism is the philosophy I've been seeking.

Again, thank you, Michael.

You’re welcome, Martha. His book on Stoicism, A Guide to the Good Life, is really good.
