I'm going to start a series on "Relics," things that I grew up with that are now gone. I started a list. It keeps growing. And am I that old? Thanks— I enjoyed this in a morose kind of way.
I look forward to reading your posts, Slywy.
Patinkin's piece brought back a couple of things I thought I'd forgotten — controlling the high beams with my foot and rolling metal garbage cans.
I miss that satisfied and satisfying high beam click. I also miss the smell of flash bulbs.
Loved this piece. I wrote a reply to it on my blog (http://www.brownstudy.info/2009/07/01/old-world-skillz/). Bringing it up in conversation with my co-workers is yielding really neat conversations.
Mike, I saw your post in my reader and just made a post linking to it.
