I wonder if this striking shot was a minor homage to the great deep-focus pioneer Gregg Toland.

I’ve never seen anything in Lassie similar to this shot. But now I’ll be on the lookout.

Hey, those Timmy Lassie's are great. Quite a well-made show, and with a fine orchestral score -- constantly re-used so that it sounds canned, but it was actually recorded in Europe specifically for the purpose.
I would love to know more about the Lassie score. Parts of it have a beautiful pastoral Englishness, and all of it is memorable.
