A pencil-sharpener problem

It’s not what you might expect though.

This Google search — write a story problem: 7,241 broken pencil sharpeners — brought a wayfaring stranger to the shores of Orange Crate Art. Her or his wish is my command. Here goes:

There are 7,241 broken pencil sharpeners in the town of Point Pleasant. If the town has 557 repair centers, can they divide the repairs equally? Show your work.

Can't show my work, broke my darned pencil point, can't sharpen it--too obvious?

George, I vividly remember a friend in first grade who wrote while holding a broken point between his fingers. You can do likewise. I’m sorry, but I can’t give you full credit unless you show your work.

Well, if it is Point Pleasant NEW JERSEY, you're in luck. Go to Borden's Stationery Shop. You can buy brand new pencils and sharpeners, by the thousands, at this wonderful store...

(I'll do anything to get out of a math problem...)

Such luck — and all I was wanted with that name was a horrible pun. Thanks, Adair.

A trip to Borden's in Point Pleasant is a real treat. Baskets and baskets full of pencils!!! I explain to my wife that it is cheaper than therapy. The place is so real to me that I missed the pun...

I know what you mean about alternative medicine. I am looking forward to visiting the stationery floor of the Japanese bookstore Kinokuniya in NYC this summer.

You are in for quite a treat! Kinokuniya is wonderful!
