Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY): “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
By now this statement has been widely quoted. But I haven’t seen anyone ask: is there any precedent in modern American political life for this sort of declaration? Has anyone in a comparable position ever said such a thing about a sitting president?

Wow. If the House leadership thinks moving someone out of office two years from now is more pressing than helping the economy, finding ways to restructure health insurance and services so that they are more affordable, or helping strategize the two wars we're in -- well, I made a mistake when I voted for a republican on Tuesday.
I’m glad that we have a president who’s a grown-up and who shows no signs of stopping in that endeavor. :)
Eustace,
You said it.
