Black Pearl eraser

In eraserdom, black is the new pink.

Latex- and PVC-free, the Black Pearl eraser looks great and plays well with pencils. The package says that this eraser "fits comfortably" in the hand, but I wouldn't know — I hold it with my fingers. I paid $1.47 for two (a his 'n' hers set).

[Update, August 16, 2008: These erasers are difficult to find. Paper Mate says that the Black Pearl is in production and can be ordered from S.P. Richards, 1-800-442-7774.]

I can't believe I'm commenting on an eraser, but... this looks super cool! I mistakenly bought a pack of eraserless pencils recently, so I'm definitely going to pick up a package of these.

A far cry from the Pink Pearl I remember from elementary school!

"A far cry": and how. I like seeing design-consciousness trickle down to relatively humble objects.

Oh how my grade school teachers - nuns in black would have loved the Black Pearl. Black on black, stealth objects they could whip out of a pocket and toss across the room - nailing some class clown before he had time to spot it.

Black on black, yes it would have replaced thrown chalk erasers without a doubt.

Sister Mercedes never missed.

I love these erasers!

Bought 2 at Wal-Mart in Sarasota, Florida in mid July. When I got back to Boston I went looking for more. Nada....not at Wal-Marts, Michael's, Target, Staples, etc...

Anyone know where I can get more?

Thanks!

Strangely enough I did an eraser test. I tested a Black Pearl, art gum eraser, kneaded grey and white plastic eraser with a #2 lead pencil. The Black pearl won because- best pencil lead removal, low eraser crumbs, ease in removing lines in small areas and ability to control eraser. It does leave black crumbs.

Children eating chocolate leave black crumbs, too.

I just got some at the Staples in Chicago. I don't think they had them last week.

Hansel and Gretel could've used some Black Pearls.

I was surprised to see some in a Staples a few weeks ago, on a peg marked $4.79 (!) — the wrong peg. hope you have a good stash, Slywy.

They were $1.79 for 2.

I do, now.

Anon., I think you’re probably better fixed to answer that question than I am.
